Us Realtors are a funny bunch. We love to promote our achievements…sometime a little too much. It seems like all of us are “The Top 1%” this, or “#1″ that. A select few even put their university credentials on their business cards. From CGA to MBA I’ve seen it all including PHD. I’m not saying this is wrong, I just don’t see how their clients can benefit. It’s great that you’ve majored and earned a degree but your not preparing taxes, your helping them buy or sell real estate.
My rant aside, I too have credentials after my name. They’re ABR and the stand for Accredited Buyer Representative - a REAL ESTATE DESIGNATION.
At the time of writing this post, I’m 1 of 613 across Canada to earn the designation. There are about 27,000 Realtors belonging to the Toronto Real Estate Board alone! These three letters tell you that as an Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR), you will be working with a buyer representative who is committed to your best interests.
The ABR Designation is awarded by REBAC to those Realtors who have met the specific educational and experiential criteria needed to provide the high level quality service required by REBAC. Regularly I attend real estate educational courses to keep me up to date with the ever changing market.
At the end of the day, letters mean nothing and representation is everything. If you’re buying property in Toronto have an ABR such as myself protect your interests… unless you also need your taxes done ;)

This is a broker only event not open to the general public, the only way to get in is through a realtor. [...]
