So much to see in our City, especially when Nuit Blance comes to town.  What started off as a rainy cold day, ended as long creative night. Tons of Torontonians, took to the streets to take in the art.  From City Hall to Liberty Village and all of Queen St in between…here’s what the night looked like through my eyes!

If you thought you were smarter than the City…think again.  I prepaid my vehicle registration fee BEFORE the September 1st,2008 deadline and still got charged when I went back in 09.  The video explains it better though!

Oh…and we’ve got grass coming to BMO field!  Goooooooo Reeeeeeeeds #TFC

thehive

The busy bees at BuzzBuzzHome have whipped up another cool feature!  Keeping with the apidae theme (that’s nerd talk for bee) they’ve just launched the “Hive” .  It’s basically a forum for discussing preconstruction projects in the City and is also available in Calgary and Vancouver.  I think this is an amazing idea and a great middle ground for Developer, Consumer and Realtor to meet. It brings the 3 parties together in an informal way to discuss, demystify discover more about a particular project. As more people join in on the conversation, the story of the condo can be better documented from start to finish thanks to this evolution from BuzzBuzzHomes.

To access the Hive, click on your desired preconstruction condo and select “Enter the Hive.”  From there you’ll be able to view prices, unit sizes and even other developments in the area (plus a ton more).  To comment on the project, scroll down to the bottom and buzzzz away!  Here’s my thoughts on Casa Condo, by Cresford.  Being the shutter bug that I am, I naturally love the ability the site has to upload photos!

Once you’ve found that perfect project and are ready to take the next step give me a call…i’d love to help!

cntower

Toronto is home to many things but most notably it’s been the base for “World’s Tallest Free Standing Structure.” At 553 meters it is the tallest and most recognized structure in the city. For 35 years it was also the tallest in the world… that was until the Burj Dubai stepped in (or rather up) and took that title from us!

Earlier this week, Guinness World Records changed the wording so it now reads “World’s Tallest Free Standing Tower.” I never was a fan of “labels” and this case is no different. For me it really doesn’t matter what you want to call it. Truth is, in a few years some other City will build a bigger Tower!

What they can’t take away from us is its significance. It’s a symbol of achievement, greatness and success. The Tower is a lot like a celebrity to the City, but one who never goes to rehab… or worst, moves to the US. Not only is it a treat to look at, but also spectacular to look out of.  It’s rotating floor perched high above the City allows for amazing panorama views. Whenever I’m working out of the City, seeing the Tower on the drive in is like getting a hug from a loved one after a long departure…it’s makes you feel home again.

If you’re ever in the City, I highly recommend going up to the top (it only takes 58 seconds to get there). Better yet, if you’d like a downtown condo with views of the Tower send me an email…i’d love to help!

Context just announced new floor plans at their Market Wharf condo! I had a few details about this in the past, but it looks like its now official. From what I gather, the two bedroom units weren’t selling as well as planned so they’ve redesigned the layouts to allow for more spacious 1 bedrooms. I’ve got more info on the project here but the above ad sums up the latest promo.

I also got word that a flag ship Shoppers Drug Mart will be on the main level of the Condo.  With the St. Lawrence Market a stones throw away, I wonder how much higher their walkscore will go? I really like their marketing materials, and I hope the condo design and interior follows the same creativity!  If you’d like floor plans or price list (deposit structures etc) send me an email…i’d love to help!

Ps. This wasn’t the vip announcement I was referring to in the previous post…that’s still on the way!

 Ontario Cell Phone Legislation

*UPDATE as of September 29,2009:  The law will take effect October 26th, 2009 with a grace period until Febuary 2010.  At that time fines will be handed out…You’ve been warned!!*
This October, new laws are being introduced in Ontario that will affect how we use our cellphones.  The purpose is to prevent drivers from getting distracted by texting, twittering and good ol’fashion phone calling.  Though it’s not clear exactly what can and cannot be done yet, I’ve posted questions and answers based on Rogers’ interpretation of the most up-to-date information currently available about how this law will be applied.  Thanks to Karen Meshworkfrom the Re/Max Realtron Sheppard Office for emailing me the article…which I read while parked ;)

Q1. When does the legislation take effect?
A1. The legislation will be in effect from October 2009, but it is understood that there will be a consumer awareness and education period initially, where the police will be lenient about violations.

Q2. What devices are not allowed to be used while driving?
A2. Drivers cannot use handheld wireless communications devices while driving. This includes cell phones, BlackBerrys, iPods or other portable MP3 devices, PlayStation portables or Gameboys. Drivers also cannot view display screens on devices that are unrelated to driving such as a laptop or DVD player.

Q3. Does that mean I cannot text message or respond to emails while driving?
A3.  Text messaging and emailing are not permitted while driving.

Sadly, the dreams of an 80 story tower and Yonge at Bloor are pretty much done…or at least the dream of it being built by Bazis is.  Several of my sources have informed me that the land has been sold to an affiliate of Great Gulf Homes.  The price paid for the land is unknown and probably won’t be disclosed until the deal closes in mid September.  Future plans are also anyones guess.  I’ve heard everything from keeping the design (which i HIGHLY doubt) to scraping the whole thing and rebuilding a new concept all together (which more than likely will happen).  You can check out the latest story from the Globe and Mail here.

I’ve been by the Crystal Blue project (Bazis’ current development) and was really pleased with how the outside facade is coming along. Looks like that’s all we’ll be seeing  in Yonge and Bloor area by Bazis. I just hope the condo gods have greater plans for this corner and that whatever is built, truly pushes the envelope.

Buh bye “Canada’s Tallest Residential Building.” Hello “SomethingElse Towers.”  Follow the rest of the 1Bloor story here
