The 2009 Pug Awards have just wrapped up another successful year!  The event calls on Torontonians to vote online and select the people’s choice awards for architecture.

What I especially love about these awards are; it not only awards the best but also the mediocre AND the worst of the city’s newest architecture.  This year’s big winner was One St. Thomas for best new building in the residential category. The 29 story luxury condominium (pictured above) was designed by New York architect Robert Stern and is home to 72 intimate suites.  The art deco design can be easily spotted along the Toronto skyline, yet it’s almost hidden on the quite St. Thomas St just south of Bloor before Bay.

The full list of winners/mediocres/losers are:

Just the other day, a past client gave me a call and told me they were ready to take the plunge…LITERALLY!  They love the home they’re in, but wanted a 2nd getaway by the lake. They’re timing couldn’t have been better! Canada, and in particular Ontario, has tons of exciting towns for us big city folk to relax in.    With the recent global economic downturn, recreational properties have become more affordable than previous years.  The search is now on for that perfect lake side retreat!

Also this week,  Re/Max Canada released their Recreational Properties Report.  What they’ve found is:

It’s been a long time coming, but the condos at 263 Wellington have just been registered.  The intimate 14 story building is nestled right in the entertainment and financial district.  Units are very spacious for downtown standards, offering sizes from 789 to 1058 square feet.

If you’re a unit owner in the building, now would be a perfect time to list and capitalize on the appreciation from buying at pre construction prices.  Buyers, expect a healthy selection of units on the market in the coming months.

Whatever your side, contact me…I’d love to help!

One of the top posts driving traffic to my blog was the piece I did on CREA‘s “How Realtors Help” Commercial.  Unfortunately, all I had on the blog was a pic of “Dave” being rudely awoken by a plane flying over his house.

Due to popular demand I’ve decided to re post the topic with a special treat to my reader’s. I’ve found the second commercial that shows the poor lady trying to figure out ”how to fill in those ridiculously complicated documents”

Disclaimer: I do not encourage this kind of behaviour and would rather see you save your furniture :)  Don’t be like Dave (pictured above).  Use a Realtor (Me)…we can save you time, money, and a lot of broken furniture.  Best of all, our services are free for buyers! AND one more thing, I personally explain every contract for every client!

Hats off to The Mighty Q, The Edge, and Jazz Fm for taking a bold step in the right direction!!!  These 3 stations have made the recession a little easier to deal with.  They’ve been airing commercials pointing out the positive opportunities in today’s market place.  From deals on cars, to low mortgage rates… buyers in particular are getting sweet deals everywhere you look.  The key word here being LOOK.  Now ‘s the time to take advantage of these specials before they’re gone!

I especially  like the commercial on the Edge.  It’s the one where this whinny voiced guy is complaining about the unemployment rate reaching 7%.  The more optimistic guy responds to by saying “that means 93% of the workforce still has a job!!”…he also adds that there are now something like 1,000,000 more jobs then there where a few years back (don’t quote me on the last part)

There’s no doubt that the times have changed…but the sky isn’t falling.  It’s good to see some media outlets promoting the good in these times, instead of selling out on the bad!

Call or email me if you’d like a first hand look at some of the deals out in the real estate market!

For those worried about tough economic times a head, and for those complaining about home prices being too high comes the perfect starter home.  Enter 1050 Bristol unit 103.
