In past 10 months we’ve seen real estate headlines change more than the irrevocable time in an offer (har har realtor joke). As reported in my previous post, prices are up 2% and sales up 27% for the month of June. Buyer confidence is back, and although multiple offers are as well, savvy buyers are taking full advantage of low mortgage rates. Here’s what Re/Max Ontario Atlantic had to say about it:

Just the other day, a past client gave me a call and told me they were ready to take the plunge…LITERALLY! They love the home they’re in, but wanted a 2nd getaway by the lake. They’re timing couldn’t have been better! Canada, and in particular Ontario, has tons of exciting towns for us big city folk to relax in. With the recent global economic downturn, recreational properties have become more affordable than previous years. The search is now on for that perfect lake side retreat!

Mississauga, ON (March 11, 2009) ‐‐ A report released today by RE/MAX confirms that entry‐level purchasers are now the engine driving home‐buying activity in almost every major centre in Canada.
The 2009 RE/MAX First‐Time Buyers Report, highlighting first‐time buying activity in 32 residential housing markets across Canada, found that improved affordability is prompting many first‐time buyers to get off the fence, out of the rental, and into the market. While a sense of caution still prevails, more and more first timers are finding it hard to pass up the chance to become homeowners in today’s buyer‐centric real estate climate. Increased inventory and longer days on market coupled with the lowest lending rates ever are presenting opportunities that have not been seen in almost a decade.

There’s been a lot of tragic headlines in the news this week, and it’s all thanks to the big bad recession. For starters, Canadian Idol has decided go on hiatus due the tough economic times. They blame a lack of advertisers as the reason. I blame poor ratings, lame judges and contestants who are far from idols as the real reason.
