“Downtown Condos” may not be the most creative name for a new project…but building a condo with the ability for owners to combine or divide suites definitely changes it up!
The proposed 11 storey building by Parallax Investments will have only 89 suites including Penthouse and Town homes. Located at 508 Wellington West in the King West part of town, the project will be built directly next to Bar Wellington and diagonally across from Victoria Memorial Park. Downtown Condos will have the usual amenities of a lobby with concierge, second floor party room and a theatre room to name a few BUT the truly unique feature is in the units…
Parallax and &Co Architects will be implementing a state of the art idea not seen yet in Toronto, they’re calling it the FlexNatür planning system. According to their sales literature:
The Deoxyribonucleic Acid (or DNA) of Canderel Stoneridge latest project, DNA3, is really starting to come together! The developer is no stranger to the King West/Liberty Village area having already built DNA, DNA2 and The Massey Harris Lofts! For DNA3 I particularly like the rectangular highlights placed along the condos facade as shown in the rendering above.
Approximately 600 units will be constructed on the King and Shaw site with suite finishes designed by Cecconi Simone. Other amenity spaces will include an outdoor terrace space, sundeck and misting station, private lounges and dining areas, a state of the art fitness facility and relaxing yoga lounge.
You may remember me talking about DNA3 back in October as the site was also used as the headquarters for LG Fashion Week…since then, the catwalk has been cleared and the curtains closed to make way for a new star. With all the interest surrounding DNA3, I’ll be posting more details as well as preview opportunities in the coming weeks!

775 King West by Minto has been on the radar for a while, but it looks like 2010 will be the year this one takes off. Almost a year ago to the month, Minto closed the doors at the sales centre and put the project on hold. The general opinion on the project at the time was high prices per square foot, awkward floor plans…. and oh ya, they launched right in the thick of the big bad recession!
Since then Minto has been taking quite a few steps to improve the project. They’ve been getting a lot of public and Realtor opinion on what went wrong. It’s becoming a popular trend (and one I hope we see a lot more of in 2010) to have developers engage the public and incorporate their opinion into the developments they build.
According to their latest Tweet (as of August 30th 2009) “Great news! Minto is moving forward with plans to launch MintoKingWest as early as Feb 2010! New floor plans in the works right now.” This is the second King West project to launch in 2010, the other being DNA3! As always, if you’re looking to live downtown…I’d love to help!
