It’s been one hot summer so far in the City! With half of it gone and half more to go, I’m happy with the amount of reading I’ve been able to accomplish. To cool off from my stuffy office, I’ve been sitting outside on the porch reading a few chapters every night. The breeze that blows down the street is so relaxing…but just like a good book, I know that it won’t last forever.
With thoughts of a cold winter in the not too distant future, this hot pink and black bookshelf bench is looking like the perfect furniture piece to beat the blues! The bench doubles as a bookshelf and provides storage space while showing off your collection of books. Although pink isn’t my colour of choice, a few bright book sleeves can work well with the bench and really change the dynamic of it. According to it’s website, the bench is made of a curved wood and comes with a synthetic leather cushion!
They do ship this piece, but it will set you back $7,500 before it arrives! For some great recommendations to read once it’s set up in your home, try: Mr Shmooze by Richard Abraham, Driven by Robert Herjavec (from Dragons Den) and Decoded by Jay-Z.
The “workplace” has evolved over the years! Long gone are the days of putting in a 9-5 from the office…today the office could be just about anywhere. As more people make the change and work remotely from home, a whole new category of furniture is being created!
This weeks Must Have Monday piece was suggested to me by a blog reader! He found this Wooden Laptop Stand on Gizmodo.com and sent in an email. After one look at the stand, I knew it was blog worthy!
For those living in a smaller space where a den is not possible, the laptop stand is a perfect problem solver. It can turn your favourite chair into a office desk within seconds. The stand is fully adjustable allowing the user to get the laptop positioned juuust right. There’s a platform for a mouse and even a lower level stand for a phone (or drink)…and when not in use, the wood and steel combination give the stand a contemporary look for your condo space!
The stand comes in a variety of options and is made in Verona, Italy by Lounge Tek. They ship to Canada and a variety of other locations around the world! Check out their promo video below:
If you have an item that you think is worthy of being displayed in my “Must Have Mondays”, send me an email and i’ll give it a look!

For the condo dweller who’s philosophy is “the skies the limit”, this weeks item is for you!
It’s called the “Aviator Wing Desk” and is a classic throwback to the World War Two era. The frame of the desk is made from solid hardwood, wrapped with aluminium patch work and held together with steel screws. It’ll set you back $2200 (American) in pocketbook, but will also earn you some serious stripes for it’s cool factor.
The winged looking desk is one of those pieces that gets better with time… a couple of dings and scratches over the years would do the desk good by adding to the character of it! Here’s a few more pictures:
“Just take those old records off the shelf,
I’ll sit and listen to ‘em by myself ,
Today’s music ain’t got the same soul,
I like that old time rock ‘n’ roll.”
Ain’t nothing like sliding across you living room floor wearing only socks, boxers and a dress shirt… music blaring, the words of Mr. Bob Seger in the background with not a worry in the world! How’s that for a visual!
Sadly, some condo owners will never get to experience such a thing (or atleast not as loud as I like it). Loud music is hot topic with condo living and is one of the biggest complaints I hear. This weeks MUST HAVE MONDAY item can still give you the rocking look without noise. It’s the The Deluxe Stratocaster® Table and is made from hand-selected solid maple, custom stained and varnished with a slightly tinted finish to resemble the tone and color of a vintage guitar. According to the website: “The six tuning peg caps are chrome plated steel disks and flush mounted. Lettering is silk screened on first then lacquered over for protection. The three legs are originally designed and chromed plated. Each table is also identified with a metal tag with a stamped serial number.”
To statisy the strumming of the inner rock god in you, I’d also advise paring the table with the Blackface Hotseat! The hand made seats are made to look just like the Fender amps, complete with volume knob and all. These were only made in limited amounts and currently sold out…but check back often!

Do you have an extra 80 inches in length and 40 inches in width in that den of yours? If yes, then that’s just enough room for 2 beds! The clip above is from New-York-based Resource Furniture. Watch in awe (as I did) as they demonstrate how a little ingenuity can give a small space a lot of room!
I’ve never been a fan of the 300 sqf studio, be it for living or an investment but as the price of land in Toronto goes up; the spaces we call home are becoming smaller! It’s inevitable as developers try to facilitate as many units possible into their towers to maximize the profit on the project. Even traditional 2 bedroom units are being built with less square footage than their older counter parts.
If you look at a building like The Esplanade, it’s very common to see 1 bedroom units pushing 700 sqf. Compare that with many of the newer buildings going up and the same square footage is now housing 2 bedrooms! Space saving decor like the ones available from Resource Furniture are the key to using every square inch in your condo and making the most out of the limited space available!
…I wonder if there’s a foldable garden available?

I’ve decided to take a break from my ‘Make You Laugh Monday’ spoofs and instead, share this sleek piece of furniture I came across. It’s called the ‘Gorge” and Korean designer Ramei Keum describes his latest work as:
“Gorge’ is a coffee table with a shape of a gorge. Designing it, I strived to put it in a form so that elements composing of a table such as a top board and legs may become one element, not individual elements. The shape of a gorge folded in a V shape itself plays a structural role of supporting the top board of the table, and plays a role of holding/ keeping magazines or books as well as completing an aesthetic form of the table.”
Not only is it appealing to the eyes, it’s also functional in it’s design. If you’d more info on Ramei Keum’s design, click here. If you’d like a condo to put the coffee table in give me a call…i’d love to help!
