gansevoort

Please excuse the long title, but it truly is necessary for this one. For those who’ve never heard of Gansevoort before; here’s a brief synopsis:

“It has been less than five years since the first Gansevoort hotel helped breathe life into the now ultra-fashionable meatpacking district of Manhattan, and in that time the brand has pushed to cement itself among the top names of the luxury development world. Last March, a second Gansevoort project, its first with residences, opened in South Beach in Miami, and another hotel in New York is planned to open in fall 2010 on Park Avenue South.”
- Nick Kaye, New York Times

Now it’s Toronto’s turn to get a piece of Gansevoort .  The company has teamed up with TAS DesginBuild (think M5V and Giraffe Condos) to design and build a condo/hotel like none other. For starters the renderings are much more diverse and interesting then the standard glass boxes that have popped up through out the city.  Honestly, I had to take 3 looks and few Google searches before I could believe something like this could be coming to our home.  Let’s hope the city and it’s “nay-sayers” don’t interfer and let the project reflect it’s renderings.  More than just a pretty face, the plans are to make it the first LEED certified condo/hotel in the city.

“With Gansevoort Toronto, our goal is to bring striking design and innovation to a growing area of Toronto with a focus on energy conservation, greenhouse gas reduction and environmentally friendly materials.” says Mazyar Mortazavi of TAS Design Build.

Design like this doesn’t come cheap.  The 150-room, 35-storey hotel, spa and condominium residence will have units ranging in size from 700 – 3000 sqf with prices starting at $500,000 (though i have heard starting prices as high as $800,000)  Signature design features of Gansevoort Toronto include a heated outdoor rooftop pool with underwater lights and music; a rooftop bar and lounge with landscaped garden; and a spacious event loft with soaring ceilings and commanding panoramic views of the city and Lake Ontario.

The building will sit on top of the old Joker Night club (318 Richmond at John) and is slated to be built by 2012.  Sales should start in 2009, though no date has been set yet.  I’ve already had a few clients put down their names for pre-sales.  If you or someone you know is interested in this project, feel free to contact me by clicking here.

Yay!
