Green Toronto

Question: What’s Green, Hip, and still not embraced by everyone?
Answer: LEED!!
I guess the next question would be, what is LEED?  Well, it’s definitely legal…and my opinion, should be incorporated  into all the new condos sprouting up in the City!

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.  Fancy acronyms aside, it’s essentially a green building rating system that awards builders for design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.  They give the project points based on sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation and design.  Based on the amount of points earned, new construction projects are labeled with either a certified, silver, gold or platinum certification.   And it’s not only for condo developers,  there’s a lot of existing building who are making small changes and creating great effects!

From my personal experience in the real estate field, i’m finding that clients who are buying into these green projects are staying longer in their units.  And for those who do sell, they’re usually getting a higher than average sale price.  Not to mention lower maintenance fees from all the cost cutting designs incorporated into the building. The biggest point to get from all my ramblings is that builders who are embracing the “green movement” are reducing our carbon foot print and merging earth friendly lifestyles into our everyday activities.

It’s a great idea to buy into LEED certified condo, and it’s an even greater idea to call or email me for more info about the availability of units in these projects!
