Last night I was driving home along Davenport, and had the strangest thing happen to me…a billboard caught my eye!

With new online mediums such as Twitter, FaceBook and YouTube garnering my attention, I hardly ever notice print advertising. The ad was very simple, very meaningful, and very buzz worthy. Some lucky lady (or man) known only as JW was asked the big question…”Will You Marry Me?”

This morning I posted a tweet to my twitter followers asking if anyone else had seen the sign. Within seconds several people responded, one of which was @iSlutsky (also known as Matthew from BuzzBuzzHome). He not only saw the photo but also snapped a pic and posted it on his blog. Shortly after, a tweet came in from @Urban_Toronto (a popular forum for discussing projects and construction in Toronto) mentioning that the photo was now its “photo of the day”. Several others commented on it including friends in Burlington, Ottawa and downtown Toronto all wondering who these two people are. Back in the day (like 3 years ago) a billboard like that probably would have made it to the news in some form or other. Yet through one simple tweet tons of people picked up on the story much faster than before!

With the disaster that hit the people of Haiti, many traditional ways of communications were blocked. The major news outlets turned to FaceBook, Twitter and Flicr for updates from people on the ground. My point with the story is this, the old ways of doing things are changing…and fast! As @JenButson put it: “such an old style of advertising – men need to be more creative than that! ;)” I happen to like how JW was asked for marriage, but still, Jen is correct.

The same can be said for promoting your property. Long gone are the days of advertising an open house in a news paper. Mail-outs?? Forget-about-it! More and more eyes are focusing online for information. I think Realtors need more than just a website; they need avenues to promote your listing. For example, I use both “New School” and “Old School” ways to tell buyers (and the world) that your place is for sale! Now more than ever, you should be using a Realtor who embraces these mediums to sell your home.

It’s no secret to those who know me…I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the City. From supporting the Leafs (even during the loses) to complaining about all of the new ”Miller Taxes“! Naturally, I was quite excited to hear about the Kiss 92.5 remix of the Jay-z/Alicia Keys hit “Empire State of Mind”. Especially since I am a pretty big Jay-Z fan (for real!) For the most part, I found it a bit over autotuned and more of a plug for the station than a representation of the City…BUT, it did inspire others to make it their own. In the process of youtube-ing the video I came across another “Toronto State of Mind” remix!

This one was made by Ron D Featuring Kim Davis (who by the way has one-heck-of-a-voice!!) It may not be for everyone, but it at least shows his (Ron D’s) experience in the City. Some thought actually went into making this version and for that I give it 2 big Real Estate Thumbs Up!

It also got me thinking… and no not of emceeing, but rather “What makes Toronto so special” …The diverse restaurants? The sports teams? The condos? The night life? Toronto City Council (another post altogether)? I can go on for days, but I’m more curious about what the readers think! Leave a comment below and let me know what makes Toronto so special to you!

Happy Halloween Toronto!  I usually don’t post on weekends, but not only is it Halloween, it’s also the start of day light savings time (or in our case: day light losing time).  Remember to set your clocks and hour back tonight, especially if you currently have your home for sale…the last thing you want is to sleepin on a Sunday morning showing! The clocks rolls back an hour at 2 am (November 1st).

The Toronto Raptors celebrated a HUGE win last night against King James, Big Shaq and the Cleveland Cavaliers! The win couldn’t have come at a better time…with the Leafs in dead last and Toronto FC’s devastating season ending loss, it feels good to have at least one team winning in Toronto.   

I’ve printed off my schedule, and if you’re a true Toronto fan you should do the same!

If you thought you were smarter than the City…think again.  I prepaid my vehicle registration fee BEFORE the September 1st,2008 deadline and still got charged when I went back in 09.  The video explains it better though!

I wanted to start off this post by thanking everyone who’s put up with me complaining about how bad the Down Town roads are, so here we go: “THANK YOU” but it gets better…finally there’s something we can do about it!

CAA is running a contest to nominate Ontario’s Worst Street.  Truth is, you don’t have to travel that far in Ontario to find it.  Check out my video above to see why!

I filmed this clip while driving along Bloor in trendy Yorkville.  Known for some of the hottest boutique stores; from Louis Vutton to Gucci.  The irony of this strip is the bumpy road that runs through it.  Vote for this strip as Ontario’s Worst Road…me and my car thank you in advance!!
