sofa champHey there sports fans! We’ve all been there before…you know the feeling, you’re so mad at your teams performance that you could put your fist through a wall.  As a die-hard leaf fan for the last 25 years, I can definitely attest to those enraging emotions!

Alas, a solution is here! The SofaChamp, by Tobias Fränzel (a graduate of the Bauhaus University in Weimar) doubles as a comfortable place to watch the game AND a punching bag for when the puck goes “just wide of the empty net”.  The red arm at the back of the sofa folds up in seconds and is always ready to take left jab/right hook combo! When you’re done, fold it down, and viola… your couch is back!

livingstonesYou’ve gotta love Mondays… Long gone are the worries of last weeks marathon-running-traffic-disruptions, protesters occupying parks and Blackberry’s breaking down!

Typically, I try to pick items of value that can enhance the condo living lifestyle for my Must Have Mondays… but after all of last weeks headaches, I’ve decided to choose an item that’s totally impractical for everyday living, yet soooooo necessary after a stressful day.

Stephanie Marin, a French designer living in the Côte d’Azur, has created a collection pillow sized pebbles for your indoor and outdoor space.  The large pebbles, or Livingstones as they’re officially called, are covered in 100% virgin wool and come in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and colours. Just imagine how comfy a den full of these things would be to jump into!

Each order is custom-made and takes about 8 weeks to complete.  No prices were posted online, but they do have a Canadian distributor - Roche Bobois

voomote zapperIf you’re like me, chances are you have more remotes in your living room than you do devices!  You’ve got a TV remote, a Rogers box remote, and PlayStation remote, a DVD remote…and the list goes on.

Worry no more iPhone friends, a solution is here!

The VooMote Zapper is the only device you’ll ever need.  The small device attaches with ease to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch no different than a standard Apple charger. The remote can be synced up to a pretty much any entertainment device you’d find in a home.  Imagine being able to turn all of your devices from ONE control. With the VooMote Zapper you can!

The add-on should retail for about $70 and works with a free download from the app store.  Once installed, the user can put in their postal code and get information on local programming/show times right from their Apple device.  No need for TV guides ever again!

shoe racksMy mother often says “i’m worst than her with all the shoes I have”…and this past weekend, I discovered she may very well be right!  I’ve got my running shoes, working shoes, weekend shoes, house shoes, water shoes, gardening shoes etc etc. BUT what I don’t have is a lot of space to keep all these shoes.

In an effort to solve my shoe collection of a problem, I came across two creations from brothers Jaime & Mark Antoniades of J-Me Original Design.  The two work out of London’s Oxo Tower, and follow a focused design ethos which results in a range of products that encompass original, intelligent design and everyday function.

The Horizontal Shoe Rack was the first possible solution that caught my eye.  It’s a stainless steel shoe rack that can be mounted to a wall giving it a floating look while holding up to 4 or 7 pair’s of shoes (available in two lengths). Stacking 3 or 4 of these above each other can create a wall of shoes allowing for quick access an open display.

The second choice was the Freestanding Nest Shoe Rack (also available to mount on the wall).  It comes in one size and holds about 7 shoes.  I like this one because even without shoes it looks like a steel sculpture that can be on display as is!

Both can be purchased online from the brother’s website … or if you’d like a space big enough to fit all your shoes without resorting to a rack, Contact Me, I’d love to help!

Perfect for the architectural-fish-loving-critic in your life comes the Fish Hotel.  When I first saw the forward thinking fish “bowl” I thought it looked looked like something out of a Teeple concept (think Giraffe Condos).  The tanks were designed by Teddy Luong during competition at Carlton University’s school of industrial design.

The fish hotel is made with a white ABS shell. The fishbowls can be stacked for a condo-like appearance, and glass bowls may be removed for easy cleaning… talk about preventing urban-aquatic sprawl!

The fishbowl sells for $30 online and ships throughout Canada!

bookshelf bedIt’s been one hot summer so far in the City!  With half of it gone and half more to go, I’m happy with the amount of reading I’ve been able to accomplish.  To cool off from my stuffy office, I’ve been sitting outside on the porch reading a few chapters every night.  The breeze that blows down the street is so relaxing…but just like a good book, I know that it won’t last forever.

With thoughts of a cold winter in the not too distant future, this hot pink and black bookshelf bench is looking like the perfect furniture piece to beat the blues!  The bench doubles as a bookshelf and provides storage space while showing off your collection of books.  Although pink isn’t my colour of choice, a few bright book sleeves can work well with the bench and really change the dynamic of it.  According to it’s website, the bench is made of a curved wood and comes with a synthetic leather cushion!

They do ship this piece, but it will set you back $7,500 before it arrives!  For some great recommendations to read once it’s set up in your home, try: Mr Shmooze by Richard Abraham, Driven by Robert Herjavec (from Dragons Den) and Decoded by Jay-Z.

Laptop StandThe “workplace” has evolved over the years!  Long gone are the days of putting in a 9-5 from the office…today the office could be just about anywhere.  As more people make the change and work remotely from home, a whole new category of furniture is being created!

This weeks Must Have Monday piece was suggested to me by a blog reader!  He found this Wooden Laptop Stand on Gizmodo.com and sent in an email.  After one look at the stand, I knew it was blog worthy!

For those living in a smaller space where a den is not possible, the laptop stand is a perfect problem solver. It can turn your favourite chair into a office desk within seconds. The stand is fully adjustable allowing the user to get the laptop positioned juuust right. There’s a platform for a mouse and even a lower level stand for a phone (or drink)…and when not in use, the wood and steel combination give the stand a contemporary look for your condo space!

The stand comes in a variety of options and is made in Verona, Italy by Lounge Tek. They ship to Canada and a variety of other locations around the world!  Check out their promo video below:
